Fatigue

Fatigue

The Foundation has developed data in its pilot studies that suggests a symbiotic relationship between fatigue and refined food addiction.  Fatigue appears to promote four of the seven addictive behaviors identified by the American Psychiatric Association.  In addiction criteria 2, study participants report using refined foods to avoid the fatigue associated with withdrawal.  In criteria 4, participants report needing to spend time sleeping after refined food use.  In criteria 6, participants report missing events due to being too tired to go places.  And in criteria 7, participants report using refined foods in spite of the knowledge that they will be sleepy and dysfunctional afterwards.

In addition to the relationship between fatigue and refined food addiction, the Foundation is interested in whether this fatigue is a barrier to exercise and thus may reinforce the development of obesity and resistance to weight loss.

The Foundation is interested in further development of these findings in larger and diverse study populations.  If you would like to support this research, please click here
