Assessment and Diagnosis
The Foundation is developing screening and diagnostic tools to permit health professionals to identify individuals who might benefit from an unrefined diet. All of the Foundation’s efforts in this arena are based on the seven addictive behaviors developed by the American Psychiatric Association. These behaviors include greater use over time, use to avoid withdrawal, unintended use, attempts to cut back, spending time using and recovering, missing events in order to use, and use in spite of knowledge of consequences.
The Foundation is actively collecting data for the development of an in-depth diagnostic tool. Addictions are diagnosed through an interview typically lasting an hour. In order for addiction diagnosticians to capture a full profile of addictive behaviors, they need to know what those behaviors might be, and further, how the client might understand whether those behaviors are present in their lives.
Please check back in this space for further developments of the Foundation’s diagnostic tools. The Foundation is committed to making its research available for the public good as soon as possible.
